The Institute of Assessors and Internal Verifiers

History of IAV

The Association gained Institute Status in April 2000 following completion of a detailed series of activities to demonstrate the support for the Association amongst national key players.

BACKGROUND

Prior to registering the Institute as a non-profit making organisation, a detailed research project was carried out with 1000 organisations involved in NVQ/SVQ delivery to establish the level of support within the industry for the development of a professional Association. The results demonstrated huge support for the creation of such an organisation!

OUR AIMS

Following our initial research activities, feedback from existing members plus the national launch and subsequent series of regional events, the aims of the Institute are as follows:

To represent our members with the support and promotion of best practice in the delivery of assessment and verification of NVQs, SVQs and vocational awards.
To provide a level of support to raise the status of all individuals working in the delivery of NVQs/SVQs and vocational awards.

Provide a variety of networking facilities to assist all members

Ensure members have a strong collective voice that will be heard at a national level regarding key issues

Work with appropriate organisations to develop and implement strategies to standardise the assessment and verification process and achieve greater consistency.

Encourage and facilitate the continuous professional development of individuals
Assist members to provide a professional service to all candidates.

Promote the benefits and quality of NVQs/SVQs by enhancing employers’ awareness and understanding

The association welcomes and encourages the development of new issues and priorities within its aims introduced through the growth of membership.
