Has introduced a grade of membership THE LICENTIATE GRADE, to be awarded to those Assessors and / or Internal verifiers who meet the rigorous criteria.

In return The Institute offers:

  • Registration, ie placement on a National Register of Assessor / Verifiers
  • The right to use IAV as a professional qualification
  • Professional Indemnity Insurance (£500,000)
  • Contingent Public Liability Insurance (£1,000,000)
  • Personal Accident Insurance
  • Best Practice magazine issued throughout the year (pdf format)
  • CD Rom containing CPD material

To meet the criteria for THE LICENTIATE GRADE you must have:

Achieved an approved qualification related to assessment / verification eg

  • D Units, or
  • A and V Units
  • Qualifications in assessing which are approved by the regulatory bodies or other appropriate authority for the qualifications that you are assessing or verifying

Performed as an Assessor/Verifier prior to application, maintained your own occupational competency, continued with your own professional development by regular updating, and have a clear knowledge and understanding of your employing organisation’s quality assurance policy and practices.

What does it cost ? £85 per annum, to join complete the application form.

Best Practice on line

As you are aware Best Practice is now available on line, each month you can access Best Practice via our website and print your own copy. There are 10 issues per year enabling you to keep up to date with the latest news, topics and CPD, linking to other relevant websites.

Professional Indemnity Insurance

IAV has negotiated with our insurers (Marsh UK) to increase the coverage of PI from £100,000 to £500,000 at no extra cost to our members for the foreseeable future. The accident, public health remains the same.

e - Lectures

The first two of IAVs e lectures have been commissioned and are now available on CD for all members. If you require a copy simply contact the office and we will send you a CD containing both lectures – Professional Discussion and Good Practice in Assessment covered by Gail Booth. More lectures added during the year.

Online problems

If you are having problems getting any documents off the website, please contact the office by email and a paper copy or email attachment can be sent to you. The move towards electronic messaging is aimed at reducing the administrative costs, thus allowing resources to be used more effectively
